“Committed to Caring and
Maintaining Dignity”
In January of 1954, Clifton College,
after 58 years of quality education merged with Texas Lutheran
University in Seguin, Texas. Clifton College was an institution of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church with a strong commitment to service in the
community. During the process of consolidation the idea emerged to
convert the existing college buildings, insofar as it was feasible, to a
place of care for the aging and infirm.
The concept was relatively new in the South and in the Texas Circuit
of the ELC, but 17 sponsoring congregations were willing to risk the
venture which has proved to be a major success. Since its beginnings
Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home has grown to provide programs of quality
for persons in need of long-term healthcare and retirement living,
serving approximately 225 persons in its programs.
Clifton
Lutheran Sunset Home is located in the small, rural community of
Clifton, Texas. Clifton is located in the Bosque River Valley in Central
Texas. Dallas, Ft. Worth and Austin are major metropolitan areas within
100 miles of Clifton. Bosque County is rich in history, and celebrates
its Norwegian and German heritage.
As a small community, Clifton
is fortunate to have a modern hospital and clinic centering healthcare
in the community. Clifton has numerous cultural outlets through the
Bosque Conservatory and Bosque Museum located adjacent to the Clifton
Lutheran Sunset Home campus.
